Caligiuri Francesco, saxophonist, and composer, undertakes the study of the baritone sax, the soprano sax, the bass clarinet and the recorder.
Born in Cosenza on 18 December 1991, he began playing the tenor saxophone at the age of 11 and in 2012 he received his Academic Diploma in classical saxophone at the Stanislao Giacomantonio Conservatory in Cosenza. He took part in several classical chamber ensembles, he served as a baritone saxophone in various saxophone quartets, he played as first baritone saxophone in the wind orchestra of the Province of Cosenza; he played as bass sax and baritone sax in the wind orchestra of the Stanislao Giacomantonio Conservatory of Cosenza.
He discovers jazz in 2011 thanks to some plays by Charlie Mingus and in 2012 he enrolled in the jazz course at the Conservatory of Cosenza studying arrangement, composition and improvisation and then achieving the first level in 2015 and in 2017 the second level in Jazz with the maximum of votes and praise. In 2020 he graduated the first level in Jazz Composition and in 2022 the second level in Jazz Composition with full marks, honors and honorable mention.
In 2012 he began playing in the Street Band Takabum and later held the role of “baritonosta” in the Big Bounce Orchestra of the Conservatory of Cosenza; he is a member of the prestigious Cypriana project by Nicola Pisani born on the 50th anniversary of the independence of Cyprus from Great Britain. It is part of the C.M.C. Ensemble as saxophonist and bass clarinetist, this project was the winner of the ISMEZ Music Live 2015 national competition. Currently, he plays the role of saxophonist and composer in various Jazz formations. He collaborates with Brunori Sas and is a member of the show “Brunori Sas sings Dalla” which he recorded, in the Church of Santa Maria dello Spasimo in Palesmo, for Sky Arte “How is deep the sea” by Lucio Dalla.
Since 2012 he has performed in various international theaters and festivals including Talos Festival, Italiana kulturbruke am rehein VI, Roccella Jazz, Reggio in Jazz, Peperoncino Jazz Festival, Casa del Jazz, Ente musicale società aquilana dei concerti “B.Barattelli” Auditorium del Parco L’Aquila, Siena Jazz festival, Jazz per le terre del sisma, Improvvisamente Festival, Festival di Leoncavallo, Jazz & Vento, Notte dei Ricercatori, Notte dei Musei, Mercantia, Ferrara Busker Festival, Prajazz, Citta della musica (Squinzano), Festival delle Invasioni, Castellarte, Italianische Nacht, Borgo Incantato, Lucca Comics and Games, Bande a Sud, Kebanda Festival, Meridiano Sud Festival, Clown&clown, ecc.
He has participated in various internships and seminars related to both instrumental and improvisation and composition with Michel Godard, Evan Parker, Nicola Pisani, Marco Sannini, Mario Marzi, Francesco Salime, Massimo Mazzoni, Paolo Damiani, Eugenio Colombo, Davide Santorsola, Maurizio Gianmarco, Achille Succi, Matt Brewer, Miguel Zenon, Ben Wendel, Logan Richardson, Franco D’Andrea, Francesco Martinelli, Fabrizio Sferra, Marcello Piras, Vincenzo Martorella.
Collaborated with Louis Sclavis, Michel Godard, Nicola Pisani, Marco Sannini, Dino Massa, Luca Garlaschelli, Paolo Damiani, Eugenio Colombo, Pino Minafra e “La Banda”, Guido Morini, Tommaso Rossi, Mario Marzi, Achille Succi, Giovanni Falzone, Matt Brewer, Logan Richardson, Franco D’Andrea, Amy Coleman, Serena Brancale, Dario Brunori, Nada, Giovanardi, Manuel Agnelli.
He collaborated with the Jazz Department of the Conservatory of Cosenza and is currently a teacher of Jazz ensemble music at the Conservatory of Genoa.
